Parents always expect their children to succeed in life; you grow and nurture your children accordingly. Same applies to grownups as well, everyone wants to succeed in life.

But there is another aspect to success, and not just in the professional context but also in personal life.

We need to be intentional in growing and fostering personal satisfaction, and that means we must dream.

But in today’s fast world, with limited time, every day to accomplish everything, you might feel dreaming is out of question.

Successful people dare to dream, irrespective of the situations they are in.

How Successful  People define Dream?

Very first person who comes to my mind when I think about dream is (late) Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, former president of India.

He has given best definition of dream.

“Dream is not that which you see while sleeping, it is something that does not let you sleep.” – Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

Dr. Kalam has truly shown the world, what it means to dream, and what it takes to pursue dream.

He was born in a poor family; at an early age, he sold newspapers to supplement his family’s income. In his school years, he had average grades but was described as a bright and hardworking student who had a strong desire to learn.

He was a big dreamer, and did not want to give up on learning new things just because of his poverty.  He had a dream of becoming a fighter pilot.

After completion of his aerospace engineering, he appeared for Indian Air Force fighter pilot examination, but he narrowly missed achieving his dream , as he placed ninth in qualifiers, and only eight positions were available in the IAF.

He did not lose his hope and kept dreaming big, later he joined Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) as a scientist, in few years moved to  Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and successfully developed Satellite Launch Vehicle along with his team.

He served as the President of India, received highest civilian awards like Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan from Government of India

He always motivated students of universities and schools to dream big and pursue it.

How to deal with people who don’t support your dream?

Society is full of people who are willing to support you in pursuing your dream, whereas there are few who will discourage you from following your dreams. In the film Pursuit of Happiness, Will Smith has given very good message, that you should always rise above all circumstances and continue to pursue your dream.

“Don’t ever let someone tell you that you can’t do something. Not even me. You got a dream, you gotta protect it. When people can’t do something themselves, they’re gonna to tell you that you can’t do it. You want something, go get it. Period.” – Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happiness)

How Successful people think different than others?

Good thinking can do many things for you, it can solve problems and create opportunities. It can take you to a whole new level personally and professionally. It really can change your life. That is what many successful people say.

“All Successful men and women are big dreamers. They imagine what future could be, ideal in every respect, and then they work every day toward their distant vision, that goal or purpose.” – Brian Tracy

The fastest way to achieve success is to first help others succeed. Brian Tracy explained it best in his saying as follows.

Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others, rest are always asking “What’s in it for me?” – Brian Tracy

As per him the greatest successes in life often come through helping others to succeed, and without question, when you focus on helping others succeed your eventual payoff will always be far greater than your investment.
